The unorthodox and violent actions across Europe in 2000 by the unlikely alliance of Zita, an ex-Mossad operative, and Liam Reilly, an east-end criminal and alcoholic, results in an assassination attempt on their lives.
Despite living a supposedly invisible existence on Madonna, a houseboat in Amsterdam, they are eventually tracked down.
Following a failed sniper attack on their lives, they know there is nowhere to hide and they race to leave the city and travel to London.
With the end of the Kray’s stranglehold, the city and its criminal world are changing fast. The ever-increasing violence meted out by the Eastern European interlopers, the growing drug trade and the black economy create a world to which that Zita and Liam must immediately adapt to.

“I read all three books, Love Shack, I Will Survive, and Born to Run, which follow Liam’s and Zita’s thrilling adventures in the viciously dangerous criminal underworld.

I was immediately hooked on the story with Love Shack. I Will Survive was a fantastic follow-up with an ending that almost made me cry, and the third book, Born to Run, remains my favorite out of all three.

I connected best with Zita, but as a female reader, it’s not hard to. I loved watching her develop over the books, and her hardcore badass character as an ex-Mossad comes out to play in a big way in Born To Run. There’s a soft side to her that we only see in small elements like taking care of her tulips, but even more so with the slight romantic side of her with regards to her love and loyalty to Liam to help him stay on the wagon as an alcoholic. It’s not a lovey-dovey kind of romance, but it’s evident that Liam has taken up shop permanently in her heart.

The crime scenes are realistic and are certainly not on the mild side either, but I imagine that’s what it was like living in a world associated with the Krays. Graham Sclater did an incredible job with these books, all were real pager-turners, and it’s worth reading all three back-to-back. Looking forward to reading more from this talented author.” – Penny S

Graham talks to Marian Andrews from ‘Indie Books & More’ about Born To Run:

The arson of the Love Shack on New Year’s Eve, and the resultant deaths, have massive implications for the survivors as they all try to come to terms with it in different ways.

They hideout in a safe house but did not account for the reappearance of Erag, the eastern European butcher, and his vile atrocities.

After yet more hospital treatment and recuperation, months later everyone is able to go their separate ways.

Zita and Liam choose to go on the journey that they never expected to make to track down the perpetrators and wreak their revenge.

‘Ticket to Ride’ is a satisfyingly filthy yet delightfully innocent, romp through the bars and clubs of late 60’s Germany as The Cheetahs, a young band from small town southern England chase their dreams along the trail blazed by the Beatles in Hamburg. Along the way they discover the realities of life on the road in all of its Dirt & Glory, Sex & Drugs, Life & Death, Rock & Roll…
…and it’s all here in one gangster and hooker infested plate of realism, which was the Reeperbahn at that time.

Pulling no punches telling it like it was Sclater, who lived in this world himself for much of the 60s, tells us first hand through the eyes of characters based on real life kids who grew up fast faced with this in at the deep end rollercoaster ride of debauchery and ultimate demise. Not all gloom and doom though as the tale takes us beyond Hamburg, with occasional human kindness and discoveries of new loves of the strangest kind.

You’ll be pulled into their world and the Horrors & Highlights befalling Reg, Jimmy, Adrian, Gerry and their leader Dave and their ever changing entourage, will keep you reading as the pace moves on just quickly enough to keep you hooked, never overblown with drama but full of the contrast between the naivety of our characters and the grittiness of events, mostly recognisable to anyone who’s spent any time in the live music business, here, however, experienced in extremis. This book will leave you amazed that any of them survived, not all of them did, and there is a certain sadness to the conclusion, alien to any Hollywood version of books like this, but it’s a melancholy which gives this slice of modern history the humanity it deserves. “Don’t let your kids join a rock band Mrs Worthington! – Dean G Hill

REVIEW – Cowboys And Angels by Graham Sclater

It’s not often that only a couple of chapters into a book, you already feel it would would make a great TV drama series or a movie. Yet that’s exactly how I felt when reading Cowboys And Angels, an engrossing thriller by Graham Sclater.

The central character is Harry Clark, an ex-Special Forces soldier now running a beachside bar in Cyprus who uncovers a people-smuggling racket, sickening child abuse and also the involvement of an old enemy who tried to kill him when he served in Iraq.

The story unfolds with rapid pace and Sclater deftly conveys a great sense of place and of character as events move relentlessly towards a shocking and graphic conclusion which sets your heart racing. A powerful and pulsating book by a writer with total command of the thriller genre.
